Responsibilities of QC Engineer in Construction Site

Site Laboratories in the field shall be under control by the concerned Site In-Charge (construction) and operated by Quality Control in charge of carrying out mandatory tests. The main function of a Q.C. Engineer is to have independent checking of construction materials and inspection of execution of works. Since the works on the site are of scattered nature, it has to be planned in such a manner that necessary quality control requirements are fulfilled jointly with the execution staff.

Responsibilities of QC Engineer in Construction Site

It will be the responsibility of the quality control staff to ensure that all-requisite tests as per standards and specifications are carried out in the QC lab.
QC charge should ensure that all arrangements for carrying out routine field tests in the field/ Site laboratories are duly made including provisions and up-keeping of equipment, personnel etc.
QC charge should ensure that Records of field and Lab tests are maintained in prescribed formats.
QC Engineer is responsible for the complete quality of material received at the site. For any material found substandard, a Rejection note shall be prepared and issued to the supplier/ associate through Project Manager.
They shall maintain a copy of the work order & purchase order as a record.
They should check/inspect field records and also sign in the relevant registers. They should conduct field tests whenever they visit the site of construction work and record the results of such tests in the registers maintained for the purpose.
They shall be empowered to stop the work if deficiencies or defects are noticed during execution. However, an order for suspension of work can only be passed by the Site In-charge.
The quality control Engineer shall carry out periodic inspections of works and conduct field tests so that any deficiencies in the execution of works are properly brought to the notice of execution staff and Project Manager for taking corrective measures.
They shall prepare a summary of reports of the tests conducted at QC Lab and sent it to HO fortnightly.
