Methodology of Post-tensioning work<\/strong><\/p>\n

Post-tensioning\u00a0 work\u00a0 is\u00a0 divided\u00a0 into\u00a0 three\u00a0 major\u00a0 activities.\u00a0 The\u00a0 general methodology is given below.<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Profiling.<\/li>\n
  2. Stressing.<\/li>\n
  3. Grouting.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    1) Profiling:<\/strong><\/p>\n

      \n
    • Read the\u00a0 drawings\u00a0 and\u00a0 identify\u00a0 type\u00a0 of\u00a0 tendons,\u00a0 layout,\u00a0 locations,\u00a0 and\u00a0 number of strands per tendon, sequence of laying, number of tendons per pour, etc.<\/li>\n
    • Calculate the materials requirement such as Tube Units, Bearing Plates, Wedges, Sheathing and Prestressing Steel (HTS).<\/li>\n
    • Calculate the cut length of Strand inclusive of Jack Grip length & profile for each tendon and prepare Strand cutting schedule as per drawing.<\/li>\n
    • HT Strand must be cut by using cut-off wheel\/abrasion blade.H T Strand shall be uncoiled using coil dispenser and it should not contact soil or dust while cutting.<\/li>\n
    • Mark the Tendons as per Tendon layout drawing, after the completion of formwork& reinforcement.Fix\u00a0 the\u00a0 fabricated\u00a0 tendon\u00a0 support\u00a0 bars\u00a0 (bar\u00a0 chairs)\u00a0 rigidly\u00a0 at\u00a0 every\u00a0 1m\u00a0 (max.) interval according to the tendon layout and profile drawings.<\/li>\n
    • Lay the sheathing over the tendon support bars as per the tendon layout drawing and jointhe ducts using couplers and seal the joint using self-adhesive tape.<\/li>\n
    • Thread therequired number of Strands into Sheathing according to the \u00a0Tendon type (strand schedule) and tie thesheathing with Bar Chairs using Binding wires rigidly.<\/li>\n
    • Profiling of Tendons, both horizontally and vertically as per drawingsand arresting it rigidly to avoid any disturbances in profile during concreting.<\/li>\n
    • Fix the Stressing anchorages and make Dead-end anchorages position as per the layout drawing. Fix the Grout vents at end portions and Air vents at high profile locations and seal it properly.<\/li>\n
    • Tie Bursting and Spiral reinforcements at the anchorages zones as per the details given in drawing. Final checking of all Tendons for profiling, supporting and sealing after the completion of reinforcement and formwork works and before concreting.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      2) Stressing:<\/strong><\/p>\n

        \n
      • Stressing shall\u00a0 be\u00a0 carried\u00a0 out\u00a0 only\u00a0 after\u00a0 the\u00a0 concrete\u00a0 has\u00a0 attainedthe\u00a0 required Compressive Strength and age of concrete as specified in the drawing.<\/li>\n
      • Check the\u00a0 Stressing\u00a0 equipments\u00a0 and\u00a0 hoses\u00a0 before\u00a0 stressing\u00a0 to\u00a0 ensure\u00a0 proper\/smooth functioning.<\/li>\n
      • H T Strand\/Wire\/Bars shall be completely cleaned (oil, dust & etc.) for gripping of Jacks. Stressing can be carried out stage by stage if required, as per drawing.<\/li>\n
      • Calculate the Elongation or Modified Elongation for each tendon as per the physical values in TC.<\/li>\n
      • Calculate the Jack Pressure for the Design Load including Jack & Anchorage losses.<\/li>\n
      • Stressing shall be carried out only as per the specified sequence. Load shall be applied to the tendons by using calibrated hydraulic pumps and jacks and monitored through calibrated Pressure gauges.<\/li>\n
      • Fix the Bearing plate to the tube unit and lock it by wedges and mark a\u00a0 reference\u00a0 point\u00a0 on\u00a0 Strand\u00a0 to\u00a0 measure<\/li>\n
      • Stressing can\u00a0 be performed in single \/ multi strokes depend on Jack piston length.Fix the Hydraulic Jack (Mono\/Multi) at stressing end (Single\/Double) and\u00a0 ensure proper seating of jack with bearing plate and also connect the Jack & Pump by hydraulic hosepipes.<\/li>\n
      • Apply the\u00a0 calculated\u00a0 pressure\u00a0 (load)\u00a0 gradually\u00a0 in\u00a0 incremental\u00a0 basis\u00a0 on\u00a0 each\u00a0 strand\u00a0 or\u00a0 tendon\u00a0 by\u00a0 using\u00a0 hydraulic\u00a0 Jack\u00a0 and<\/li>\n
      • Apply jack pressure at both ends simultaneously for double-end stressing.While applying load check for required elongation & jack pressure during\u00a0 stressing and also note the Jack pressure & Elongation reading at every interval \/ stage in stressing format.Compute the total Jack Pressure applied and the total elongation arrived\u00a0 during stressing.<\/li>\n
      • If elongation\u00a0 reached,\u00a0 but\u00a0 pressure\u00a0 not\u00a0 reached\u00a0 apply\u00a0 5%\u00a0 additional\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 If\u00a0 pressure\u00a0 reached,\u00a0 but\u00a0 elongation\u00a0 not\u00a0 reached\u00a0 apply\u00a0 5% additional pressure. After applying the additional pressure \/ elongation, if the Stressing result\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 is within +\/-5%, release the jack pressure slowly and then proceed for next stressing. If\u00a0 the\u00a0 stressing\u00a0 result\u00a0 \/\u00a0 value\u00a0 is\u00a0 more\u00a0 than\u00a0 +\/-5%\u00a0 inform\u00a0 the\u00a0 Design\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Engineer\u00a0 for\u00a0 further\u00a0 instruction.\u00a0 Same\u00a0 method\u00a0 shall\u00a0 be\u00a0 followed \u00a0for\u00a0 all other Strands \/ Tendons.12 hours after the completion of stressing of all tendons, cut the strands\u00a0 leaving 25mm from the face of wedges by using angle grinder.<\/li>\n
      • After cutting\u00a0 fill\u00a0 the\u00a0 recess\u00a0 pockets\u00a0 (Stressing\u00a0 pocket)\u00a0 in\u00a0 layers\u00a0 using\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 approved materials.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        3) Grouting:<\/strong><\/p>\n

          \n
        • After the\u00a0 setting\u00a0 \/\u00a0 curing\u00a0 time\u00a0 of\u00a0 recess\u00a0 pockets,\u00a0 flush\u00a0 the\u00a0 tendons\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 (sheathing) completely by water and then by compressed air. Potable water and OPC Cement should be used for preparation of grout. Suitable\u00a0 admixture\u00a0 (Non-Aluminium\u00a0 \/\u00a0 Non-Chloride\u00a0 based)\u00a0 may\u00a0 be added to the grout as per specification.Fix the valves at all grout and air vents and also fix the pressure gauge.Mix Water followed by Cement of ratio 0.40 in the grouting machine.The grout shall be mixed in mixture for 2-3 minutes and until pumping of<\/li>\n
        • Grout should be colloidal mixture and free from any lumps and it should passed through sieve.Pump the grout into the tendon through grout vent pipe (inlet) and release\u00a0 the air inside the tendon through air vents.Plug all air vent pipes and also the outlet vent pipe after consistent grout\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 is passed.<\/li>\n
        • After plugging\u00a0 all\u00a0 the\u00a0 vents\u00a0 pipes\u00a0 tightly,\u00a0 built\u00a0 the\u00a0 pressure\u00a0 of\u00a0 5kg\/cm2 and maintain for one minute. Then close the inlet valve also. The same method shall be followed for all other tendons.<\/li>\n
        • Grouting should be performed continuously to avoid grout setting. Any breakage\u00a0 occurred\u00a0 during\u00a0 grouting,\u00a0 flush\u00a0 the\u00a0 tendon\u00a0 with\u00a0 water\u00a0 and compressed air and do fresh grouting.<\/li>\n
        • Clean the vicinity by water after the grouting is completed.<\/li>\n
        • Cut all vent pipes projecting outside the surface after the grout is set.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
