Calculation of Cutting Length of a Diamond Stirrups<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Here the Calculation of Cutting Length of a Diamond Stirrups detailed calculation given below:<\/p>\n

The cutting length of diamond stirrup is done by using simple and easy formula.The Rings or commonly called ties are used,to avoid the lateral deformation of the reinforcement when we are pouring the concrete in columns.<\/p>\n

The ties also use in column to hold the longitudinal reinforcement in its position when the column is in under construction.The longitudinal bars in the column may change their position or alignment when we pour concrete and use a vibrator.<\/p>\n

Lets solve this example for your better understanding.<\/p>\n

Example:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Suppose we are using a diamond stirrup in a column and a column having a length 550 mm and having a width 450 mm(X-section).The clear cover in the column will be 40 mm and the stirrup bar is going to use is 10 mm.<\/p>\n

1.Calculate the cutting length of the diamond stirrup?<\/p>\n

2.Calculate the cutting length of the diamond stirrup?<\/p>\n

Given Data:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Length of column = 550 mm<\/p>\n

Width of column = 450 mm<\/p>\n

Clear cover = 450 mm<\/p>\n

Stirrup bar diameter = 10 mm<\/p>\n

Length of the stirrup = ?<\/p>\n

Weight of the stirrup = ?<\/p>\n

Solution:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The calculation of the diamond stirrup is to be done in 2 steps.In the first step we calculate the hypotenuse length of the right angle by using Pythagoras theorem.In the second step we put these values in our formula to get final result.<\/p>\n

Calculate the length of Hypotenuse:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hypotenuse = \u221a (Base Length) \u00b2 + (Perpendicular length) \u00b2<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Base Length<\/strong><\/h3>\n

= {Length \u2013 2(Clear cover) \u2013 2(Half of diameter of bar)}\/2<\/p>\n

= {550 \u2013 2(40) \u2013 2(5)}\/2<\/p>\n

= 460\/2<\/p>\n

= 230 mm<\/p>\n

Perpendicular length<\/strong><\/h3>\n

= {width \u2013 2(clear cover) \u2013 2(Half of diameter of bar)}\/2<\/p>\n

= {450- 2(40) -2(5)}\/2<\/p>\n

= 360\/2<\/p>\n

= 180 mm<\/p>\n

So putting the value of base and perpendicular in our Pythagoras theorem we can calculate hypotenuses.<\/p>\n

Hypotenuses = \u221a(230)<\/strong> \u00b2 + (180) \u00b2<\/p>\n

= \u221a<\/strong>52900 + 32400<\/p>\n

= \u221a<\/strong>85300<\/p>\n

= 292 mm<\/p>\n

Cutting length of diamond stirrup:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

<\/p>\n

Cutting length:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

= (4 x H) + 2(10d) \u2013 3(2d)<\/p>\n

Where<\/strong><\/h3>\n

H = Length of the Hypotenuse which we calculate in our first step<\/p>\n

10d = Length of the Hook and \u201cd\u201d is a diameter of the bar<\/p>\n

2d = 90*bands<\/p>\n

3d = 135*bands<\/p>\n

By putting the given data values and hypotenuse value (which we calculate in our first step) in our formula we get the length of our stirrup.<\/p>\n

By putting the values<\/p>\n

Cutting Length:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

= (4 x 292) + (200) \u2013 (60) \u2013(60)<\/p>\n

= (1196) + (200) \u2013 (60) \u2013 (60)<\/p>\n

= (1396) \u2013 (120)<\/p>\n

= 1248 mm or 1.248 m<\/p>\n

Weight of the stirrup:<\/p>\n

To calculate the weight of the stirrup we use common formula.<\/p>\n

Weight <\/strong><\/h3>\n

= (D\u00b2\/162.2) X Length<\/p>\n

= (10 x 10)\/162.2 x 1.248<\/p>\n

= 0.616522 x 1.276<\/p>\n

= 0.77 kg or 770 gram<\/p>\n

So the length of the diamond stirrup in the column will be 1.248 meters, including all two hook\u2019s and the weight of the stirrup will be 770 grams if you are using 10 mm bar.<\/p>\n

Note:<\/strong>The length of the bar is not 100% accurate as compare to the actual length of the diamond stirrup at side but it is approx..+ or –<\/p>\n
