By using large vibrators or heavy\nrollers, soil can be compacted to create an ideal construction surface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Soil Compaction :<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Compacting soil is a way of increasing its density.Soil is\nmade up of solids, gases and water. Reducing the amount of gas in soil by\nforcing the solid materials together compacts the soil. Reducing the pore\nspaces of soil leaves less space in it for air and water. Reducing the amount\nof water in soil makes the soil particles less lubricated. Wet, un-compacted\nsoil is very difficult to build on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Roads :<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Driving over the same spot of soil will eventually compact\nit to the point where no plants can grow there. Plant roots break apart the\nsoil and naturally make it less&nbsp;\nstable&nbsp; for&nbsp; roads.&nbsp;\nCompacted&nbsp; soil&nbsp; will&nbsp;\nbe&nbsp; harder to wet and will require\na lot of water to destabilize. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gravel roads benefit from soil compaction because the firmer\nsoil provides a stable base on which to rest the small stones. A compacted road\nfor concrete or black top roads makes the road last longer. Compacting for\nbuilding a highway helps to make the shape of the road so that it sheds water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Buildings :<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Most&nbsp; buildings&nbsp; are&nbsp;\nbuilt&nbsp; right&nbsp; on&nbsp;\nthe&nbsp; soil&nbsp; rather than having footings going all the way\ndown to bed -rock, as with skyscrapers. If the soil is not compacted enough,\nthe house will not last as long and can encounter many problems. The soil must\nbe dense enough to support the weight of the structure. If the soil is not\ncompacted enough it can collapse. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Lawns :<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Golf courses, baseball parks and lawns all benefit from a\ncertain amount of soil compaction. Compacting soil where grass is grown makes\nit more level and aesthetically pleasing. Soils for golf courses are carefully\nrolled so that putting greens and other areas are in the right condition for\nplay.
