Generally,a long term pressure\nchanges the shape of concrete structure and the deformation occurs along the\ndirection of the applied load.When the continuous load is removed, the strain\nis decreased immediately.The amount of the decreased strain is equal to the elastic\nstrain at the given age.This quick recovery is then followed by a continuous\ndecrease in strain,known as creep recovery that is a part of total creep strain\nsuffered by the concrete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>TYPES OF CREEP<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The following definitions are used for creep.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Creep is long term deformation due to loading.<\/li><li>Total creep is the strain due to loading and\ndrying.<\/li><li>Basic creep is the strain due to loading with no\nloss of moisture.<\/li><li>Specific creep&nbsp;\nis the creep per unit stress.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Basic creep is almost impossible to measure because it\ninvolves keeping a test specimen under load for a long time (often up to 20\u201330\nyears), while sealing it to prevent any loss of moisture.Therefore,\nexperimental data generally gives the total creep, but this will depend on the\nextent and timing of the drying. For most structural purposes, creep is assumed\nto be proportional to stress, so the specific creep is used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Effects of Creep In Construction<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Creep causes:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Deflection in structures under continuous loading.This may cause&nbsp; bridges to sag,or cladding systems on\nbuildings to buckle.
