protect both inner and outer wall from dampness.Mainly used in water storage structure to prevent leakage.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Properties&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An effective damp proofing material should have the following properties given below<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>It should be impervious.<\/li>\n<li>It should be strong and durable .<\/li>\n<li>It should be capable of withstanding both live and dead loads without damage.<\/li>\n<li>It should be stable.<\/li>\n<li>The material should be reasonably cheap.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Classification of damp proofing materials<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The materials commonly used to prevent dampness can be classified into the following four categories listed out below<\/p>\n<p>(1) Flexible material<\/p>\n<p>(2) Semi rigid materials<\/p>\n<p>(3) Rigid materials<\/p>\n<p>(4) Grout materials<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Flexible materials like butyl rubber, hot bitumen (asphalt), plastic sheets, bituminous felts, sheets of lead, copper, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Semi-rigid materials like mastic asphalt.<\/li>\n<li>Rigid materials, like impervious brick, stone, slate, cement mortar, or cement concrete painted with bitumen, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Mortar with waterproofing compounds.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Materials used for damp proofing<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The following materials are commonly used for damp proofing they are
