Choose layout and type of slab. Type of slab is strongly affected by architectural and construction considerations.<br \/>\n2. Choose slab thickness to control deflection.\u00a0 Also, check if thickness is adequate for shear.<br \/>\n3. Choose design method.<br \/>\n<b>Equivalent frame method- <\/b>use elastic frame analysis to compute positive and negative moments.<br \/>\n<b>Direct design method <\/b>&#8211; uses coefficients to compute positive and negative slab moments<br \/>\n4. Calculate positive and negative moments in the slab.<br \/>\n5. Determine distribution of moments across the width of the slab.\u00a0 Based on geometry and beam stiffness.<br \/>\n6. Assign a portion of moment to beams, if present.<br \/>\n7. Design reinforcement for moments from steps 5 and 6. Steps 3-7 need to be done for both principal directions.<br \/>\n8.
